Training FAQHow much time will there be between the date I am trained and when our module is to "go live". We will implement a "just in time" training schedule for each of the modules. What this means is each participant will receive training as close to the "go live" or Banner transition date as possible. In addition, a training environment will be provided to all participants to be used following the scheduled training session(s). This will allow system users to complete additional exercises in preparation to transitioning to Banner in your work environment. Please refer to the Training Schedule section of the Project 1College Website for additional information. What will the average duration be for each of the training courses? When developing the training schedule for each module, project members are aware of the duties and responsibilities of those who will be attending Banner training. Therefore, most of the training courses will last between three (3) to (4) four hours. However, some courses will require multiple sessions to ensure all of the established learning objectives have been accomplished. What should I expect when I attend a Banner training course? Each training session that you will participate in will be specific to your roles and responsibilities related to Banner. Activities will be created for the training session that will emulate "real-world" scenarios based on how you will be using Banner in your actual work environment. Training materials will be provided to help participants both during and after the training course. Materials will include a training manual and reference guide. Training will be a combination of system demonstration/lecture and sufficient time to conduct a series of hands-on exercises. Facilitators will be working closely with each participant during the training sessions to answer any questions and provide guidance as needed. Once a participant successfully completes a training course, a secure username and password will be provided that will provide access to the "live" environment. Will the training materials be specific to the processes used at Dickinson College? Yes. The training materials will be developed based on the "future state" processes that will be in place within each department that will be using SCT Banner. Furthermore, detailed user guides will be provided to supplement the training materials. What support will be provided following training to ensure that I have the skills required to use the system? As mentioned earlier, the training environment will be available following the training session(s) you will be attending. Project members from each module will also be available to answer any questions that you may have following training. Each of the teams would also like to receive feedback including suggestions or recommendations specific to you module. For technical issues that you may experience, please contact the LIS Help Desk at helpdesk@dickinson.edu or x1000 (717-245-1000 off campus). How will I be notified of the course(s) that I must attend? You will receive email notification for courses you have been identified to attend. Because the courses are specific to the certain functions that will occur within your department, it is critical that you attend each course in its entirety. Who will be facilitating the training courses? Dickinson College personnel who have been a part of the Banner implementation will be facilitating each of the courses. There are many benefits including deep knowledge of both current and future processes associated with your department. Where will the training courses be held? All training courses will be conducted on-campus. Also, most courses will use the instructor-based method (classroom teaching). The Advancement module will conduct a majority of courses at the Academic Technology Services Room in the Waidner-Spahr Library. The Finance module will conduct most of the courses in Room 2 in Old West. Later in the year, the training plan specific to Financial Aid, Student, and Human Resources/Payroll will be available. In addition to instructor-led training, there may be occasions when another instructional method is more appropriate given the size of the audience. In those instances, computer-based instruction will be offered. Information specific to those courses and who should attend will be communicated to all identified personnel. Must I have prior knowledge before using the SCT Banner application? No. However, all participants must attend a System Overview / System Navigation course before attending courses specific to particular subject matter. This course will introduce the benefits of SCT Banner, help participants navigate through the system, and provide a firm understanding of basic Banner terminology. In addition, Microsoft Office courses will be offered to participants before attending any courses in the Project 1College training curriculum.
